In attesa della tavola rotonda milanese post Sxsw, Matteo Sarzana, Vml, ci sollecita con suggestioni in pillola, direttamente da Austin. 5) building tools for creativity – david karp

  • i created tumblr because i wanted something simple to blog about my life
  • from this simplicity came a great creativity, people took the platform and want it could be done and started creating new way of expressing
  • even things which were always created in long, hard to read, forms, took the way of being re-created in a simple way (ie, reviews in a haiku)
  • also, the curation part being made able by the reblogging is a crucial part of the platform
  • people are able to create their own feed of contents and engage with the audience
  • the difference between reblogging and the like button you find somewhere else, is that with the reblogging you’re curating something which appears on your own page
  • that’s why it’s not an action you do without thinking about it, but it’s a choice you do knowing it will appear on your curated tumblr
  • likeminded people actually re-blog constantly and this creates a network of shared thinkers and interests
  • this network expanded beyond the web since there’re meetup happening all over the world where the above mentioned people do meet in person to talk and share thoughts
  • 90% of the contents on tumblr are reblogs
  • the ask feature on tumblr was a test feature coming from a user’s idea which has been very appreciated by the creators and by the audience
  • actually most of the features have been created after people asked for it
  • panorama pictures are very difficult to be represented online, so now we created a feature which let’s you view them in all their beauty
  • we cheerish the community and we make sure every ccommunity has its own space to flourish
  • we also are contents neutral which means that we strive to give any media contents the best space possibile on tumblr
